I love this book! It's full of wonderful images of Frida, one of my favorite artists. Sadly when the book arrived it was filled with mold and had that stinky mold odor. I had to disgard it. I may look for another sale of this book since I would like to own it and be able to enjoy the images.Tags : Frida Kahlo [Hayden Herrera, Victor Zamudio-Taylor, Elizabeth Carpenter, Frida Kahlo, Kathy Halbreich] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Very good product. I am an admirer of Frida Kahlo, and this provides a thorough history of the artist and her life. It includes photos of Frida, her paintings and the stories behind them. It definitely makes me want to go back and visit her home (now her museum).
I am a serious fan of the life and work of Frida Kahlo and this book is a
good addition to the material I already have on hand. This book combines
good biographical material, a great collection of fine reproductions of
Frida's paintings plus a good description of many of the paintings. For anyone really interested in the life and work of Frida Kahlo, this book is a must.
Beautifully presented book with detailed biographical information and loads of photos of Kahlo and her paintings. There are full page photos of many pieces of her work as well as descriptions and photos of the general art world sensibility at the time. An incredible find for Kahlo lovers as the price is also unbelievable at about $20!
Very interesting read... Provides insight into Frida's life, the life of Diego Rivera, and their association with art and ideological change. Guess where Leon Trotsky was when assassined.
Loving this !! Of course photos can never deliver the true beauty and detail of seeing these pieces in person but these are of exceptionally good quality. I'm proud to own this book.
I received the book in NEW condition and within the time expected. The quality of the paper is wonderful so it will hold up to many years of referencing without tearing apart. Photos are beautifully done and plentiful and the text is an easy read. Would recommend it to anyone interested in Frida Kahlo.
This is the catalogue for the current exhibition at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. It is divided into three essays the first studies the artist as a Mexican modernist (the aim being to study her art itself, setting aside the myth), the second follows her life through the numerous photographs that were taken of her and which have survived (she was one of the most photographed artists of the XXth century), and the third describes the legacy of the artist (especially interesting is her influence on contemporary artists such as Kiki Smith).
The color plates of Kahlo's works (portraits, self-portraits and still-lifes) which form the exhibition are grouped in one section, as well as a private collection of photographs of both herself and Diego Rivera.
The book is not as complete as the 2005 Tate catalogue as far as the works illustrated are concerned, but the essays are more thorough and give valuable insights on the artist and her art.
I love this book! It's full of wonderful images of Frida, one of my favorite artists. Sadly when the book arrived it was filled with mold and had that stinky mold odor. I had to disgard it. I may look for another sale of this book since I would like to own it and be able to enjoy the images.
