River of Light and Shadow is an amazing book with interesting historical accounts and compelling story of the lives of pioneering families. You immediately become intimately intertwined in the characters. There are many thought provoking issues that relate to our current lives. It was also enlightening to know more about the plight of the Mormon movement and gaining insight into their involvement in northern Missouri.
I knew some of this Mormon history from Missouri and Illinois, but Kent has added to that in this very engaging novel. His descriptions and character development are outstanding. I, like another reviewer, would like to see a sequel as to how the lives of these characters transpired after joining the Mormon wagon train. I have read all of Kent's work, and I am eagerly waiting to begin his newest book!
I enjoyed reading this book. It had an interesting storyline, but I felt there were some gaps along the way.
Kent squeezes in historic references with a good story and searching questions of faith, belief, and religious intolerance. Good read... Kept me going 'til the end
I have read some accounts of the mistreatment of the Mormons before, but I loved the story line. Very well written.
This story stays true to its time and setting with well developed characters and frontier challenges that keep you turning pages.
Held my interest. I was aware of some of this Mormon history. There seems to be a few of us that would like to see a sequel. I think that could be interesting. I will be looking for other works by this author.
