1115 The Making of a Halfling FREE ebook The Halflings Series eBook Heather Burch Reviews
From the first page, Heather Burch's way with words sucked me into the story. I love it when a book not only offers a captivating plot, but beautiful, lyrical prose ~ and this definitely gives me an inkling of what the book to come is going to be all about!
So strap yourself in and dive into the world of the Halflings (complete with illustrations!). I was holding my breath during tense moments--the action is just great. My favorite part, though, by far, is how real the characters seem. We've all known guys like Raven and we've all often been Vine or Mace.
I can't wait to get to know Nikki!
I've not read the other books in this series, only this prequel, so I can only rate it on its own merits. Basically a Christian "paranormal" young adult book, with half-angels training to fight darkness. Decent enough and reasonably entertaining, though I'm not really the intended audience.
Storyline - As Raven and Mace wait for their next assingment, they train Vine for when he will come into his gift. When a mission comes up, Vine goes with his Halfling brothers to stop a deadly fire just to watch but soon Vine get in trouble and he might not make it out alive.
Personal Opinion - Now this is the story of Vine I've been waiting for! It fits perfectly with the beginning of the series. If you are planning on reading the Halfling series, or already have, read this too. It is short but well told and is a cure in wanting to learn more about Vine.
I read 1115 The Making of a Halfling By Heather Burch a few months after I read the first book 'Halfling', which got a 4 star review from me. I found 1115 The Making of a Halfling a quick 15 minute easy read for me and it gave readers, who haven't yet read the first book 'Halflings' a quick introduction to Mace, Raven, Vine and Will as we get to see how Vine became a Halfling first hand. As a added bonus we catch a glimpse of Nikki, who is a main chatcher in the first book Halflings. All in all, it was a quick, fun and entertaining light read and the illustrated picture were gorgeous to look at, I'm giving it 4 stars. I just wished it was longer.
The Halfling series is about some beings that are here on earth that are half-human and half angels. The three boys, Raven, Mace, and Vine live with Will, their angel master. They follow commands from heaven, acting against evil, and the minions of the devil. In this short story, Vine, the youngest boy, receives his wings. This is a prequel for Heather Burch's Halflings series. This is an exciting series and this short story is a race from beginning to end as the boys go on a mission to save a group of kids at a concert. Burch weaves a gripping story, sure to please teen readers and a great many more. If you like clean, gripping, action, you will love this!
Loved the drawings that went along with this. A full length novel with drawings interspersed would definitely be at the top of my reading list!
Like I said, this is a short story, (took less than 10 minutes to read) but I got a good feel for the characters. Well, not the girl at the end who came in randomly. I wouldn't mind seeing more of this story as the plot did keep my interest. My only gripe is that the writing felt juvenile to me. Other than that, I liked this very much.
I enjoyed this short prequel more than I did Halflings, book one in the series. It had a great story line and full of suspense. Although, I must admit, the fight at the beginning between Raven and Vine is kind of boring. The thing I liked best about 1115 was that you got to hear more of Vine's story, and how tapped to become a halfling. I liked Vine in the first book, but we didn't get to hear much about him until this prequel. I was amazed that he found the problem at the concert almost right away. The illustrations in the ebook are drawn really well. They give a lot of insight to what the characters look like, and they looked way different in my head. This was a very enjoyable prequel. I kind of wish I would have read it before I read the book. I think if I would have read the prequel first, I would have liked the first book better.
